Rob is a Chartered Architect with over 30 years’ experience in the industry and founded Cunniff Design in 2015.
After graduating with a First-Class degree from Plymouth, Rob moved to Leeds where he quickly graduated to board director at Carey Jones Architects working on many large scale commercial projects across the country, as diverse as the £85m redevelopment of Frenchgate Interchange in Doncaster, stunning barn conversions in the Yorkshire hills, to the tallest student accommodation in Europe at Sky Plaza in Leeds.
Rob launched Cunniff Design with his Co-Director Patrick Evers and brings creativity and technical knowledge to all aspects of our portfolio. His extensive knowledge across many sectors ensures that our design responses to all projects are unique and site specific.
Rob is a talented designer and exceptional project delivery leader with a passion for the human element of design, and believes that the ability to communicate ideas and concepts through sketches enriches the ultimate design realisation for any project.
Patrick is a Chartered Architect with nearly 30 years’ experience in the industry and is a Director of Cunniff Design having joined in 2016.
After graduating in Manchester, Patrick worked in Malaysia for his Part I placement during the economic boom of the 1990s where he experienced large scale commercial projects, and some great travel experience in the region, returning to Leeds to complete his professional studies.
Patrick started his career at Leeds City Council under the city architect John Thorp working on museums and civic buildings before moving to Carey Jones Architects where he became Project Director, working on a range of projects from the Dakota Hotel in Edinburgh, Wellington Place in Leeds, and 1200 student beds at the University of York.
Patrick is passionate about designing and delivering buildings and bringing together the teams needed to make it happen, through working with trusted partners and fostering collaboration.
Martin is an Architectural Technologist with over 35 years experience in the industry and is the Technical Lead at Cunniff Design.
After leaving school, Martin initially started work at Abbey Hanson Rowe where he studied part time at Huddersfield College of Building & Leeds Polytechnic to gain his ONC & HNC qualifications in building studies. He started his career in Huddersfield and has worked at some of the most prestigious commercial practices in the region, moving quickly through the ranks to become a Senior Architectural Technician.
Martin's early experience was predominantly working on schools, offices, banks and building societies, but in more recent years has worked on many significant schemes including Frenchgate Doncaster, Sky Plaza, Candle House, Rotherham Civic Offices, Clarence Dock, Langwith and Constantine Colleges at University of York, Wellington Place, Digital Campus in Sheffield and West Dorset District Council offices.
Martin is now the Technical Lead in the team and has led several important schemes such as the redevelopment of the listed East Parade Chambers in Leeds, as well as industrial projects for clients such as Jet2.com.
Sam is a Chartered Architectural Technologist with over 25 years’ experience in the industry and is BIM lead at Cunniff Design.
Starting out at The Harris Partnership and DB3, Sam studied part time to gain his National Certificate and Higher National Diploma in Building Studies, while working on a variety of projects ranging from retail clients such as Marks and Spencer to large-scale industrial projects including British Gypsum production facilities.
At Whittam Cox Architects, Sam developed his technical and Revit skills working on a mix of projects including veterinary and doctor surgeries, retail and leisure and large-scale residential schemes including Middlewood Locks in Salford. He became a Chartered Architectural Technologist in 2013.
Sam is now BIM Lead in the team and has made significant contributions to developing the team’s skills and workflows using Revit, as well as producing highly detailed models for projects such as Symons House, Mabgate Yard and Cirrus Point.
Ben is a RIBA Chartered Architect with over 15 years’ experience in the industry and is Design Lead at Cunniff Design.
After studying at the University of Sheffield, Ben spent several years working and studying in Birmingham, helping deliver a series of city centre schemes including the redevelopment of the historic Central Fire Station. His student work was awarded a Distinction and earned a nomination for the prestigious RIBA Silver Medal.
Ben moved to Leeds in 2013, working at CJCT alongside Rob and Patrick. During this time Ben had a key design role in some of the most high-profile developments in the city, including the regeneration of a Victorian railway viaduct at The Junction.
Joining Cunniff in 2020, Ben has helped bring forward a number of exciting projects in the Build to Rent and PBSA sectors, including Mabgate Yard in Leeds and mixed-use developments in Leicester and Burton-on-Trent.
Ben served as President of the Leeds Society of Architects from 2018 to 2023, encouraging collaboration between architects, students and the wider industry. Ben is now Chair of the RIBA Yorkshire Regional Council and is part of the RIBA Nations and Regions Committee.
