Sector: Student Living

Client: Torsion Group

Size: 115 beds

Cunniff Design were appointed by Torsion Group to design a new student accommodation building on the edge of Coventry city centre. Using a simple block form with a residential pitched roof, the design uses only two materials: the sides and roof are clad in black panels and the gable ends are a textured brick. This simple form and confident use of materials gives this modest block a clarity of architectural language.

Challenges

The main challenge was seeking an appropriate scale and massing with the local authority. This - and a change to the range of room types being offered - led to the design being revisited, whilst ensuring that the original concept was retained.

Key Statistic

This now takes the total number of student beds designed and delivered by Cunniff Design to over 1000, with another 1000 beds in the pipeline.
