The Waterfront

Coventry

Completed: January, 1970

Service: Architecture

Sector: Student Living

Client: Study Inn

Size: 400 beds
25,000sqft teaching space

Cunniff Design have worked with Study Inn on a number of their high quality student accommodation schemes and were asked to assess the potential of their Vintage House site on the northern boundary of the Coventry Ring Road to provide a scheme comprising student accommodation and separate teaching space. Cunniff Design developed the design in conjunction with the local authority and recognised the potential to distinguish the two uses early in scheme. This exiting redevelopment of a long vacant site at the head of the Coventry Canal basin will bring much needed regeneration to the area. The two elements of the scheme are linked by a high quality central glazed area that creates the feel of a street environment and through the provision of transparency a strong visual connection is created.

Central Street

The tower and base elements of the scheme are brought together in an internal street, 3 storeys high and naturally lit from above, creating a bright vibrant space in the students can meet and relax.
